Forest star Murray’s Watford return won’t end well, says pundit

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton says Glenn Murray may feel he has ‘a point to prove’ when he returns to Watford – but tipped the Reds to lose at the Hornets.

Murray is in line to start the Championship clash for the 12.30pm kick-off having spent time on loan at Vicarage Road earlier on in the season during an unproductive loan spell from Brighton.

He made just six appearances for the Hornets as he struggled to nail down a first-team place and subsequently left to seal a permanent switch to Forest in the January transfer window.

Murray scored twice on his full debut in a 3-0 win at Wycombe with Forest boss Chris Hughton hoping the striker’s return can spark another triumphant performance.

But Prutton, who is a pundit for Sky Sports, feels the Reds will lose 2-1 in the Championship clash.

He said: “Watford bounced back well from that defeat to Bournemouth in midweek, and are in a right old scrap with Brentford and Swansea now. With the squad they have, it would be hard to bet against them.

“Nottingham Forest won’t know how they lost at home to Luton in midweek! They will want to bounce back and Glenn Murray will feel he has a point to prove. But I think this is a home win.”

Murray is not the only Forest player to have ties to Watford with James Garner also having spent the first half of the season on loan at the Hornets.

Like Murray, Garner then linked up with Forest and has been a huge hit since his arrival producing a string of impressive performances.

And speaking ahead of the clash, Hughton was fulsome in his praise for the talented teenager.

“We’ve been absolutely delighted with him,” he said.

“He’s grown in experience, he’s learning all the time. His game isn’t perfect, but it wouldn’t be at his age.

“He’s on the right road to being a very good player, that’s my thoughts on him at the moment. We are very respectful of how we speak about him as he’s not our player, but more so, we are very grateful to Manchester United for his services.”
