The Trent End

Report: Champions League hopefuls eye move for £15m-rated Nottingham Forest star

Premier League outfit West Ham United are interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall, according to The Sun on Sunday (2/5; page 61).

The Hammers are hoping to qualify for the Champions League this season but ahead of the next campaign they want to shore up at the back.

Worrall is thought to be a target and David Moyes could move for the 24-year-old when the summer transfer window reopens.

West Ham have enjoyed some success with recruiting players from the Championship.

Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen, Craig Dawson have all checked in from the second tier, with Michail Antonio joining from the City Ground.

Burnley and Norwich have declared interest previously and Forest have a fight on their hands to keep the player on Trentside.

West Ham have enjoyed a remarkable campaign. They could finish the season with a Champions League place and Moyes has worked wonders at the club.

Worrall’s stock has risen considerably in the last two seasons. Since a loan spell at Rangers during 2018/19, the centre-back has really kicked on.

In total he has played 136 times for the club and had captained the side on occasions during the current campaign.

Forest have previously valued the player in the region of £15 million but they could demand more.

Matty Cash left for Aston Villa last summer and he has proved a snip to them at £16 million.

Will Forest keep Worrall?

It has to be said that the chances do look slim.

Keeping Worrall from the clutches of Burnley or Norwich might be doable but West Ham significant financial clout.

The Hammers are a very attractive proposition right now and Worrall might fancy a move south.

Forest are well-stocked at centre-back but the academy graduate is comfortably top of the pile.

Chris Hughton will undoubtedly want to keep his player at the club but the Reds look to be facing a struggle to do so.
