Report: League One outfit eye 27-year-old Lamouchi wanted at Nottingham Forest

Ipswich Town have made a move to sign Matt Crooks just under a year after Sabri Lamouchi tried to take the Rotherham man to Nottingham Forest.

The attacking midfielder was a target for the former Reds boss before he departed the club back in September.

It was a busy transfer window for the Forest manager, with 16 new players arriving during the close season.

Despite that, Lamouchi wanted more and was eyeing up a move for ex-Rangers player Crooks prior to the deadline.

It was the Rotherham Advertiser who claimed Forest’s interest and it seems he’ll be a wanted man again this summer.

The East Anglian Daily Times claim the Tractor Boys are about to make a formal bid for the 27-year-old.

Paul Cook checked in at Ipswich back in March. He was unable to revive the club’s fortunes and his team finished in ninth place.

With that in mind, he will look to sign some quality players and feels Crooks fits that criteria.

The versatile performer scored seven goals and registered three assists during 2020/21.

He showcased the ability to play anywhere through the middle.

Interestingly he played 13 games as a holding midfielder and 10 as a second striker in the No.10.

Crooks played in both games against Forest as the Reds collected four points off Rotherham during the campaign.

Should Forest revive Crooks interest?

It’s a difficult one as he has just been relegated with Rotherham but Forest do need central players.

His versatility would be a massive attribute and the Reds are short in central midfield.

Given that Crooks was a target under Lamouchi, it does seem as though reviving the deal is unlikely.

Hughton will have his own targets and perhaps Crooks won’t be on the list.

That said, perhaps he should be. He’s still at a nice age, weighs in with goals and more crucially would offer something different in midfield.

Ipswich look to have the upper hand but that shouldn’t deter Forest from keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.
