Report: Nottingham Forest are about to offload ‘fabulous’ player, talks imminent

Championship outfit Stoke City are planning a bid to sign Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor, The Mirror has reported.

The Montserrat international checked in on Trentside during the summer of 2020 on a free transfer.

He started 15 times for the Reds during 2020/21, scoring just five goals in all competitions throughout the campaign.

Taylor was largely viewed by Chris Hughton as a peripheral figure, coming off the bench 25 times.

Now it would seem as though the Reds boss is keen to offload the 31-year-old talisman during the transfer window.

Stoke are keen to take him, with Michael O’Neill a big fan of Taylor’s.

The Potters are in need of some more firepower. Tyrese Campbell is a long-term injury casualty and won’t be back for the start of the season.

Forest are attempting to clear the decks this summer, allowing Hughton to bring his own players in.

The boss has made no secret of his desire to sign new forward players.

He did, however, reserve some praise for Taylor during last season.

After a 2-0 home win over Wycombe, he told the Press Association: I am pleased for Lyle, it was a really good cross for the first goal but the second was all his.

It was a fabulous finish and when you’re a striker, you want to score goals.

Would offloading Taylor make sense for Forest?

Possibly, although it’d be risky to let him leave without first getting an alternative through the door.

The Reds were toothless in front of goal last season and Forest do need better forward players.

Plenty of strikers have been linked with a move to the City Ground and the club will hope to get something over the line.

Taylor is a decent Championship player and if he leaves the Reds he could thrive in the right system.

Things haven’t really worked out for him on Trentside and perhaps a move away would be best for all parties.

Taylor has two years left on his contract and if Stoke are willing to offer a fee, Forest would be wise to consider it.
