Report: Nottingham Forest want 20-year-old Tottenham gem who impressed Mourinho

Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Tottenham winger Jack Clarke on loan next season, according to The Athletic.

The wide option spent the second half of 2020/21 on loan at Stoke City after making Europa League outings for Spurs earlier in the campaign.

Clarke joined the Premier League outfit from Leeds for £10 million in 2019. He made 28 appearances for the Whites after emerging from the youth academy.

The 20-year-old is supremely talented and was edging towards his best form during his loan spell at the Potters.

He made 14 appearances for the Championship outfit and became a regular in Michael O’Neill’s squad.

Clarke earned high praise from Jose Mourinho during his Tottenham tenure, with Football London claiming the boss had been impressed with the youngster.

The youngster plays on either flank and that versatility could help Forest.

Wide options will surely be sought. Anthony Knockaert and Luke Freeman will head back to their loan clubs, whilst Sammy Ameobi will be out of contract.

That leaves Joe Lolley, Alex Mighten and the returning Brennan Johnson to compete in the wide areas.

Clarke would tick a lot of boxes in the eyes of supporters and it’d be a loan signing which could excite.

The talented performer is on £25,000-a-week at Tottenham but as with James Garner’s loan, Forest would look to do a deal with Spurs on the wages.

Ultimately, the Reds could offer him first-team football and that might give them an edge over their rivals.

Would Clarke excite the fan base?

When Forest beat Leeds 4-2 during the 2018/19 campaign the youngster scored for the Whites at the City Ground.

He was ultimately on the losing side that day but his quality was there for all to see.

Since then he has signed for Tottenham and the fact he impressed Mourinho must highlight a certain degree of talent.

Some fans were critical of the signing of Garner when he checked in but he has performed incredibly well.

The Premier League loan market is certainly one to tap into and Clarke has the potential to excite the Forest supporters.

Watch this space, but Forest could do a lot worse than take Clarke on loan for the 2021/22 campaign.
